Straw hats can be spot-cleaned with a damp cloth. We recommend using plant-based soaps because regular detergents can be toxic to our waterways.
Always let your hat dry naturally. If your hat gets out of shape, you can use steam from a tea kettle to reshape it. Hold the hat in the steam and allow it to soften. You can then reshape your hat to its original shape and then let it cool down before wearing. Always place a hat upside down on its crown if you do not have a hat rack for storage.
Many of our straw hats come with a wire in the brim so you can shape the hat to match your style. With a little practice you can reshape your hat brim easily. Western styles are generally worn with the brim turned up on the sides and Australian style hats look great with a dip in the front and the back.
I have an addiction of sorts for hats, particularly well-made, affordable, and good looking one. The Outback Jack Braided Toyo Hat achieves all three. I wear a 7 1/8 and this hat fit me true to size. The brim is wide which I prefer, but it is a flat brim--no shape/curve. That's not a bad thing but a wearer use to a fedora or a safari may take a time or two to adjust to it. I have and am quite pleased with its look.
Great summer hat. Perfect fit, great sun protection. Became my go-to hat the first day I had it.
Purchased to cover my sparsely-covered scalp from the sun's rays, with the hope of staying cool. Looking cool would be a bonus, and highly subjective anyway. But it at least coaxes the needle away from "doofus" so it points more towards "dude!"
This is a stylish and functional lid. Nice brim width -- enough to provide good shade, without being a full-on cowboy hat. I like the hat band too. It's unique and it adds style.
Giving 4 stars instead of 5, based on description that it is "crushable." I stuffed the crown full of clothing and folded brim sides up when packing. I'd say it traveled OK, but not great. Not as easily restored to desired shape as raffia, for example, but a patient approach will yield a pretty good look. And, if you can steam it over the teapot you can get all but the most stubborn creases to disappear and customize your look. Nothing at this price came close, IMO.
Size note: I'd normally be smack dab in the middle of 7 1/4 and 7 3/8 (23" head diameter) and the large is slightly big on me. If you're close, I'd recommend ordering down.
If I could've given 4.5 stars, I would've. Arrived in immaculate condition . . . and fast! 5 stars for service and shipping. Cheers!
