Where Are Conner Hats Made? Ethical Hat Sourcing

Short answer: Conner Hats is family-run. Bill Conner has made hats in Byron Bay for over 50 years, after learning leatherwork in St. Augustine, Florida, in 1969. His son Will created the brand, which ships from American Fork, Utah. The hats are made in Australia, Sri Lanka, China, Pakistan and Mexico.

Where our hats are made today

All of our hats are handmade. BC Hats styles are handmade in Bill's workshop in Byron Bay, Australia, and our leather hat bands are hand-braided there too. Our other styles are handmade by partner factories, and across the range our hats are made in Australia, Sri Lanka, China, Pakistan and Mexico. Every order ships from American Fork, Utah. How we choose and check our factories

Wherever a hat is made, we third-party test the materials for nasty things like formaldehyde and toxic chemicals in dyes. Most of the factories we deal with have been our trusted suppliers for many years, some since 1999, when Will Conner began sourcing from factories beyond his dad's Byron Bay workshop.

If you don't live at the factory it's hard to ensure a code of ethics is being followed 100% of the time, so we keep working on closer, long-term relationships with the people who make our hats.

Our Pennsylvania chapter

For a time, we made some wool hats with a hat factory in Pennsylvania, and the video below is from one of our visits there. We no longer make hats in the USA, and we no longer sell those styles.
