Felt hats can be steamed and reshaped by a professional hatter. Straw and palm hats hold their shape but have limited reshaping ability. Always store your hat with brim facing up—laying a cowboy hat with brim resting on flat surface over time will slowly warp the brim causing it to lose shape. Always grab the cowboy hat by the brim, grabbing the crown can crumple or dent the crease, when adjusting grip the front and back of the brim.
To care for your Mexican cowboy hat, avoid fully soaking it and let it dry naturally if it gets wet. Brush felt hats gently with a soft brush in a counterclockwise direction, and store your hat in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. If it needs reshaping, stretching or steam can help restore its shape.
