This page explains how the guides on connerhats.com are written, checked and kept up to date.

Who writes our guides

Guides are written or reviewed by the Conner Hats team, a family-run hat business. Many are written by founder Will Conner. We sell the hats we write about, and our guides link to our own products.

Where the facts come from

• Our own product records: materials, brim widths, sizes and care instructions.
• Material test results. We tested all of our hat materials with ARPANSA, the Australian radiation protection agency.
• Published research and standards, which we link to when we use them.

If we cannot check a claim, we leave it out.

How we rate sun protection

A UPF rating on our site means three things are true:

• The hat's material was tested with ARPANSA.
• The hat has no open mesh. We do not rate a hat with open mesh, even if it has a wide brim made from UPF 50+ material. Covered mesh and small mesh eyelets are fine.
• The brim is at least 2.5 inches wide. We do not rate any hat with a narrower brim.

We use these extra rules because a rated fabric alone does not protect you if the sun gets through vents or past a short brim. Full details: how we rate sun hats.

Claims we check before publishing

• Guarantee: every mention of our lifetime guarantee includes the lost-or-stolen terms (50% off if lost or stolen). Full guarantee terms.
• Materials: wool is described as Australian wool (non-mulesed). We only name certifications we can show.
• Sustainability: we describe what is already done, with numbers, on our environmental record. We are not carbon neutral and do not claim to be.

Updates and corrections

We update guides when products, materials or test results change. If you spot a mistake, email customerservice@connerhats.com or call 904-688-9705 and we will check it and fix it.
