It's best to spot clean all cloth hats with a damp cloth using cold water, or hand-wash in a sink if necessary. We recommend using plant-based soaps because regular detergents can be toxic for our waterways.
Always let your hat dry naturally. If your hat gets out of shape, you can use steam from a tea kettle to reshape it. Hold the hat in the steam and allow it to soften. You can then reshape your hat to its original shape and then let it cool down before wearing.
Another option to take out wrinkles on the brim is to place a clean rag or old T-shirt over the wrinkled area then iron the area.
The XL fit a bit snug, but has grown on me. A loose chin strap secures hat in high gusts. Highly fashionable. Maintains cool temp. Highly recommend. The only thing I would change is the height of the mesh. Another half inch would help the fit, but maybe not.
When I opened the box, I felt disappointment. After paying $80, I expected something a bit higher quality. It's not bad, but you can tell they've taken shortcuts, i.e. the sticker label and cheap cord. I will be shopping elsewhere next time.
We're sorry you feel that way about the hat. Many of our hats will come with different cord materials whether real leather, faux/vegan leather or the synthetic cord that we've paired with your hat. It isn't a permanent fixture to the hat so it's well within a customer's right to change it if they feel they want a different cord. Eg; One of our hats comes with a leather chin cord and a customer requested for synthetic one after they had purchased the hat. As for labeling, I'm not sure how a sticker with our branding makes it seem like 'shortcuts' have been taken but I guess it appears in this case, a sticker subjectively has.

I owned this hat for 27 years (yes, REALLY!) wearing it regularly. Well, it met an untimely end at the business end of a puppy’s mouth. I was heartbroken. I was elated to find the Conner web site and MY hat! HASTILY I ordered an “identical” replacement. Hastily, it was not the right color. A 5 PM call to factory on Friday afternoon netted a sympathetic ear who had the correct color in my hands by Tuesday! I was even more impressed when he explained that my replacement was most likely crafted by the same hands as my original hat. It may seem silly, but service and sentiment means the world to an old guy. Thank you is not enough...
It's folks like you that make us enjoy what we do. Might I add that you have the last of its kind. Bill Conner (BC) decided that after 50 years of making handmade leather hats, catching that perfect wave was a great retirement option. May your BC hat share many more life moments.
Happy and relieved to have found another BC hat and ordering from the source so easy. My usual local source now only carries one style of BC hat, unfortunately it is not the style i like. Thank you for continuing to make this hat!
