HOW TO FIND YOUR CORRECT HAT SIZE

Even the most accurate measurement of your head (which we will teach you here) doesn’t always mean the hat you receive will be a perfect fit. There are many factors that can get in the way of receiving the perfect fit on the first try. One is the use of natural materials. Sometimes leather or certain straw hats for example can be slightly thicker or thinner with each batch of material, even when sewing a hat the technician can use a little bit less or more pressure and the size will be slightly affected. So hat sizing isn’t an exact science but an accurate measurement of your head is a good place to start. That along with working with a hat brand that cares about you getting the perfect hat for you. WE PROVIDE FREE SIZE INSERTS IN EVERY ORDER JUST INCASE YOU NEED THEM.

 LETS GET STARTED ON YOUR HAT SIZE

  • Use a soft measuring tape or a piece of string (not elasticized or stretchy).
  • Place the tape measure or string on your forehead and measure the circumference about 1/2 inch or 1.5cm above your ears, about where your hat would sit.

  • If you have another hat that shows the size, you can use that information. 
  • Check the length of the tape measure or string to determine your size. (if using a string, hold it up against a ruler)
  • Use the size charts on the product pages to find your perfect fit. For example, if your measurement comes to 22 inches or 56cm, then you would choose a size Medium hat.
  • Make sure you measure your head multiple times and get 2 measurements that are the same to be 100% sure.

*If you fall in between sizes, choose the next biggest size. We will send two free size inserts with every hat ordered, just incase your hat needs a slight reduction. If you need more than 2 please reach out we can send you more.

See the size charts above. Your hat is either an individual size like Small or Medium or Large etc. or uses a stretch band that covers 2 sizes like Small/Medium and Large/X-Large. Each size can cover a slight range but that is OK, choose the size in your range.

"I bought this hat 23 years ago - it's been through everything you can throw at a hat - Australian heat, Irish rain, any situation you can throw at it this hat has been through it and after all those years it has only just ripped. Unfortunately there are no facilities near me, who can work with leather hats so I'm being forced to buy a new one. If you want a good hardy hat that will take as much punishment as you - this is definitely the type of hat you should get. I just hope the new one is as good as the old."

A Fine Hat

"The hat arrived yesterday, and I have to say, I am quite pleased. It fit my long oval head true to size (using the size chart here.) The leather is plenty thick to stand up to solid use, and the stitching seems well done and solid. Right out of the box, I removed the band and deeply conditioned the hat, band, and sweatband with a high quality conditioner. Last night I wore it for about five and a half hours at an event and found it to be quite comfortable. The photo shows it today, moments after I returned inside from a rainstorm. What did surprise me about the hat is that the edge of the brim, and the inner seam at the top of the crown are finished with some sort of plastic, not leather. Looking at it, I believe that this is to help with the 'crushability' of the hat. It seems to provide some level of firm structure that might not be present without it. Particularly in the crown which just bounces right back after being squeezed. The best part of the hat is the leather sweatband (not really a band as it doesn't go all the way around, but it's placed where it is needed.) Most makers of this style of hat seem to either use elastic, which is very uncomfortable with long term wear, or some other fabric that won't stand the test of time. This BC hat is how it should be done. All in all, I'm very pleased with the purchase."

"I have always liked the BacPac traveler. The leather is way thinner since my first. Secondly I’ve purchased the black one at least 7 times. Yet every time I’ve looked for the 50% discount for lost or stolen it’s been denied. They say what’s the order number. They can see I’ve ordered. They send one year purchase thank you messages. Sorry because I still love the hats but quality has dropped."

"You buy a second in another color. I first purchased the BC Hats Bac Pac Traveller Oily Australian Leather Hat in Brown. It was the best looking and best fitting hat I have ever worn in my 70 years. My excuse to buy another in black was I needed one to match my other "outfits" haha. The black one is just as amazing and exact same fit. A little tight at the first wearing but after that, it is a perfect fit to my head, and tight enough not to blow off in a wind. So happy, I display them in the entry to my home."
