Which Conner Hats Are Waterproof?
By Will Conner, owner of Conner Hats · Updated October 2026
The short answer: only 4 Conner hats are waterproof: the Kentucky Oiled Cotton Cap, the Portland Waxed Cotton Rain Hat, the Mountain Trail Waxed Cotton hat and the Northern Front Oilskin hat. They are made from waxed cotton, oiled cotton or oilskin. Every other hat on this page is water-resistant, which means it handles light rain and splashes but is not waterproof.
The 4 waterproof hats
| Hat | Style | Material |
|---|---|---|
| Kentucky Waterproof Oiled Cotton Cap | Baseball cap | Oiled cotton |
| Portland Waxed Cotton Rain Hat | Safari hat | Waxed cotton |
| Mountain Trail Waxed Cotton | Outback hat | Waxed cotton |
| Northern Front Oilskin | Outback hat | Oilskin |
To keep waxed and oiled cotton waterproof over the years, re-proof it with Nikwax Fabric & Leather Waterproofing Spray. Nikwax also works on cotton and canvas hats.

How to care for a hat that gets wet
- Don't fully soak your hat.
- Let it dry naturally, away from direct heat.
- If it loses its shape, a gentle stretch or some steam brings it back.
- Re-proof waxed cotton, oiled cotton and canvas with Nikwax.

Questions
Which Conner hats are waterproof?
Four: the Kentucky Oiled Cotton Cap, the Portland Waxed Cotton Rain Hat, the Mountain Trail Waxed Cotton hat and the Northern Front Oilskin hat.
What's the difference between waterproof and water-resistant?
Our waterproof hats are made from waxed cotton, oiled cotton or oilskin. Water-resistant hats handle light rain and splashes, but they are not waterproof.
Can I wear a wool hat in the rain?
Many of our wool hats are water-resistant and fine in light rain, such as the Jackeroo and the Aussie Wool Crusher. For steady rain, choose one of the 4 waterproof hats.
How do I keep a waxed cotton hat waterproof?
Re-proof it with Nikwax Fabric & Leather Waterproofing Spray when water stops beading on the surface.
What if my hat is lost or damaged?
